WASHINGTON — Today the State of Utah filed a lawsuit at the Supreme Court challenging the Bureau of Land Management’s administration of millions of acres of public lands in Utah. In response, GreenLatinos Public Land Program Director Olivia Juarez issues the following statement:

“My home state is once again wasting public dollars on a fruitless effort opposed by most Americans. 86% of western Latino/a/e voters and 84% of voters in Utah support the creation of new conservation areas. We need these advancements to survive the climate and biodiversity crisis, and they would be impossible if public lands were not held in trust for all. State control of these sacred landscapes would create more, not less, sacrifice zones. Instead of working with the federal government to ensure public land in Utah bolsters public health and an improved quality of life for everyone, Utah Governor Spencer Cox and other state officials continually behave like they never learned to play with others. GreenLatinos encourages the state to give up this lost cause and work with the Department of Interior for restoration, recreation and stewardship on our public lands.”
